Word Counter
A simple tool that instantly counts words, characters, sentences, and reading time.
I recently built a small Word Counter tool.
Not as a “serious” product.
Just something useful, built quickly, by vibe coding.
What the Tool Does
You paste text into the box. It instantly shows:
Character count
Word count
Sentence count
Paragraph count
Estimated reading time
No login. No ads. No tracking.
Just input → output.
That’s it.
Why I Built It
I write a lot.
Substack drafts, long-form notes, tweets, documentation.
And every platform has constraints:
Titles need to be short
Descriptions have character limits
I didn’t want a bloated editor.
I wanted one screen, one job.
So I built it.
Design Choices
Single HTML file – easy to host anywhere
Instant feedback – counts update as you type
Minimal UI – nothing that distracts from text
Readable output – numbers that matter, clearly labeled
What I Like About Building Small Tools
Small tools are honest.
They solve one problem cleanly.
Most people overthink side projects.
Sometimes the right move is to build a tiny thing, ship it, and move on.
That’s what this word counter is.
If it helps even one person write with a bit more clarity, it did its job.
